Heirs According to the Promise: What Galatians 3:29 Actually Means for Your Money

Galatians 3:29 says that if you belong to Christ, you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.

Heir is a legal word. An heir is a person who already owns something and simply hasn't collected it yet. The ownership is settled. The paperwork is done. The only open question is whether she ever walks in and claims it.

Most Christian women I meet have been treated as beneficiaries of something purely spiritual and vaguely future. Something you'll receive later, in heaven, if you behave. And an inheritance you don't know about functions exactly the same as no inheritance at all.

What Abraham was actually promised

Go read it. Genesis 12 and 13. God promises Abraham land, descendants, and blessing, and the text is not shy about the material part. Abraham became wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold. That's in the text too, sitting right next to the covenant, and nobody in the story treats those two things as being in tension.

The promise was never only about a feeling. It included provision. It included territory. It included the ability to leave something behind for people who came after him.

Paul's whole argument in Galatians 3 is that this line now runs through you. Same covenant, same promise, extended.

Romans 8:17 says the same thing from another angle: if you're a child, you're an heir, a co-heir with Christ. Co-heir. Equal standing.

Why nobody told you the money part

Because the money part got quietly removed somewhere along the way, and I don't think most of the people who removed it were being malicious. I think they were passing on what was passed to them.

Here's what got taught instead. That wanting is worldly. That a godly woman is grateful for whatever lands in her lap. That asking for more suggests you don't trust God with what you have. That there's something spiritually safer about going without.

So you ended up with a very strange arrangement. You believe God is a good Father. You believe He owns everything. And you feel guilty asking Him for a car that starts in the winter.

Deuteronomy 8:18 says God is the one who gives you the power to get wealth. Power to get it. That's not permission to survive it. He built the capacity into you on purpose, and then somebody convinced you that using it was a character flaw.

Proverbs 10:22 says the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow with it. No sorrow. No guilt tax. No penance you owe afterward for having done well.

Let me deal with the objection you're already having

You're wondering if this is prosperity gospel. Fair. Ask it.

Here's the difference and it's a real one.

Prosperity gospel makes your giving the mechanism. Seed a check, name it, claim it, and God is contractually obligated to produce. It puts the transaction at the center and it has hurt a lot of people, including people I love.

What I teach starts somewhere completely different. It starts with what you believe you're allowed to have, and where that belief got installed. God is not a vending machine you feed. He's a Father who already put something in your name, and the obstacle between you and it is almost never His willingness. It's a sentence somebody said to you when you were nine.

I'm also not going to tell you that clearing a belief means money appears. You still have to build the thing, price the thing, and show up. What changes is that you stop sabotaging it on the way.

What an unclaimed inheritance actually costs

It doesn't look dramatic. That's what makes it so easy to live inside.

It looks like sitting on a business idea for four years. It looks like the price you drop before anyone asks. It looks like the raise you never brought up. It looks like doing the math in the parking lot before you go in. It looks like a woman who is genuinely gifted, genuinely called, and genuinely broke, telling herself that's what faithfulness costs.

And it compounds. Every year you don't claim it is a year of interest you don't earn, and a year your kids watch you not claim it, which is how the whole thing gets handed down again.

What claiming it looks like

Find out what you actually believe. Not what you'd say in a small group. What comes up in your body when you say your real price out loud. That reaction is the honest answer.

Trace it. Somebody taught you that. Usually you can name the room. Once you can name whose voice it came in, it stops being a fact about how the world works.

Say the number and stop talking. No nervous laugh, no justification, no discount you offered before anyone asked. It will feel unbearable for about four seconds. Then it passes, and you'll have proof.

Do the material part too. Look at what you charge. Look at what you're owed. Look at what you've been calling generosity that was really avoidance. Faith and a spreadsheet are allowed to be in the same room.

Give some of it away. This is the real test of whether money has you. If handing a chunk of it to someone makes your stomach drop, you found something worth working on. If it doesn't, go in peace.

You were always the heir

That's the thing I want you to sit with.

You didn't earn your way into this and you can't behave your way into it. It was assigned. Galatians 3:29 is a statement of fact about who you already are, written down before you had any opinion about it.

The only thing left is whether you go collect.
